In grade school I became enamoured of all things 1940s. It began with Cary Grant and then went full tilt boogie when I discovered that Judy Garland was far more than just Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. I bought her cassettes and loved her voice and her inimitable way of putting a song across. I placed her on a pedestal and there she still remains. I think of her every June 10th and rather than focusing on her short life I prefer to remember all of her hysterically funny stories and flawless performances on stage and screen. There was no one like Judy before and there will never be anyone like her again. She is one hundred percent original.
