Rumours

This album is known to be a classic and I own it on album and 8-track but have never actually listened to it until this week. Decades after it's release it is still a perfect compilation of beautiful songs. My three favourite songs are Second Hand News, Never Going Back Again, and I Don't Want to Know. The only song I skipped was Don't Stop; I lived through the Clinton administration and they are responsible for wearing this song down to within an inch of its existence.

As an 11 year old at the time I can attest to the fact that this album was huger than huge. It was everywhere and everyone had it. We're talkin' THRILLER huge. But it was also a great album and the super-soap-opera album of all-time only gaining in legendary status as the years have gone by and we've learned much more about what was going on at the time. A must-watch is the CLASSIC ALBUMS episode about RUMOURS which is fascinating and gives insight into each song. Some other particular favourites of mine on the album are the ultimate break-up song GO YOUR OWN WAY and the ensemble oddball THE CHAIN. I'm afraid I have to agree with you about DON'T STOP; it was never a particular favourite of mine and it's been played to death now. Even when Elton John covered it I wasn't impressed. Of course, that Elton cover comes from the LEGACY cd which presents the entire RUMOURS album performed by different people including a nice version of GO YOUR OWN WAY by the Cranberries. Then, not on this album but elsewhere is a good version of GOLD DUST WOMAN by Courtney Love from a CROW soundtrack and way back in 2000 the Vitamin String Quartet did the whole RUMOURS album as a . . . wait for it. . .string quartet!

i am gonna hafta check out that LEGACY cd! and, although i think courtney love needs to do some deep internal soul searching and join adulthood, i do love her voice, so i will absolutely check out her version of Gold Dust Woman. do you know the unplugged ep where Hole performed a cover of "He Hit Me"?? it's as good as The Crystals' version.
