Fran

I had meant to read Anita Hill's Speaking Truth to Power in March but kept putting it down. It's just that I know the outcome. I know she's going to sit in front of all those old white men and tell some of the most embarrassing things that she has had to put up with and they will dismiss her statements and appoint him to the Supreme Court anyway. I just am not in the mindset for disappointment. So I picked up Fran Drescher's Enter Whining instead and have been howling with laughter since page one. It's wonderful.

Hummus Hour

Kim and I met up again for our usual gab fest at the nÓg. I always get a platter of cukes and hummus and Kimmy gets the same plus a few drinkies. We have designated our evenings as Hummus Hour rather than Happy Hour, although that applies too, as you can see from our silly photos.

Blue Beauty

This pretty little home in Massachusetts is absolutely darling and I'd give a week's pay to get an inside look.

Mailbox Goodies Galore!

Tonight I opened my mail-slot to discover two posties and one Easter card from my Godmother. Could life possibly get any better? I doubt it!

Translation: To the brightest Lisa Star in the Sky - If I were to be trapped in this Air Tram morbidly called "Hell's Gate Airtram" it would be with you. Because our convos would bring me to tears of laughter prior to escaping starvation (I know you would amply pack snacks and H2O) and/or the cables snapping. ---> I'd MacGuyver that shit...so we would walk away unscathed. Just soiled. -->no peepods.

Cobra Kai

Okay, so I'm kinda scared to see a trailer for this upcoming TV series because the premise sounds like a dream come true. Johnny and Daniel from The Karate Kid reunite for a series? Oh I really, really hope it's a home run. Fingers crossed!

Fashion Climbing

In today's newsletter from Austin Kleon he informed me that Bill Cunningham's memoir is called Fashion Climbing and is set to be released on September 4th! The article from The New York Times featured some beautiful photos of Mr. Cunningham and shed a bit of light on what to expect from Fashion Climbing. The excerpt below has haunted me since I read it:

"There I was, 4 years old, decked out in my sister’s prettiest dress,” reads the memoir’s second sentence. “Women’s clothes were always much more stimulating to my imagination. That summer day, in 1933, as my back was pinned to the dining room wall, my eyes spattering tears all over the pink organdy full-skirted dress, my mother beat the hell out of me, and threatened every bone in my uninhibited body if I wore girls’ clothes again."

I know that most parents do their best. Some fall short. Like Bill's mother. I read this and kept thinking about how wonderful a man Bill Cunningham was. How he seemed so warm and genuine, kind and energetic, and so incredibly inspirational. I wonder how his life would have been if he'd had a supportive mother who expressed unconditional love. I can't imagine Bill as being a better person; that simply couldn't be possible, but I do think that if he was accepted one hundred percent, how much happier he might have been in his personal life.

I am looking forward to September when I can crack open this book and get to know Mr. Cunningham a bit better and learning new details that made him who he was - a truly great man.

Snowiness Outside My Door

The best kind of snowstorm is the one where the snow sticks to the tree branches.

Two Year Anniversary

Two years ago today I was dropped off at an alcove in Positano and David Marino bounded up countless steps with an enormous grin and welcomed me to his home, Casa Giovanna. This morning I texted him to wish him a happy anniversary and to let him know I'm hoping to return to Positano in 2019. He sent me this photo of my favourite place on earth and it was a lovely way to start my day.

Star and Kimmy Take on Europe!

On our next get together, Lady Miss Kimberly and I will be discussing any and all future adventures, and now it seems that we are to add Paris to the list! (not a chance in hell!)

Tired Hands

Yesterday Xavier and I grabbed some grub at Naked Lunch then headed up the road to Tired Hands for some beer and fries. Well, he had the beer and I stole a few of the fries. I especially liked the walls in the ladies' loo. It should be noted that the Grim Reaper is above the baby changing table. So he gets to peer down at your wee one while they have their diaper changed!

St. Patrick's Day at the Fellas'

Pax loves to decorate for holidays and he is so good at it! He never goes overboard and always keeps it fun, colourful, and festive. Green is my all-time favourite colour and I do so love the Emerald Isle, therefore this holiday is at the tippity top of my hit parade list.

Surf's Up

Not too long ago Natalia sent me this beautiful postcard from her new home in Honolulu. I don't surf, I don't swim, the ocean sort of terrifies me, but I love to watch people surf and look out at the waves and listen to them lap on the shore or crash against the rocks. I couldn't put this postie in a shoebox; I needed to look at it and look at it often. So I hung it above one of my vision boards that's by my work desk. Whenever I feel overwhelmed I look up and instantly I am calmer.

The Grad Gal

So happy to get graduation pix of my sweet and wonderful Kayla, however, did that broad seriously call me a senior citizen??

She's lucky that I adore her and that I know she has a wicked side to her humor.

Lauryn's Vibrant New 'do

This particularly sunny afternoon, Lauryn and I met up for lunch and girl talk at Heart Beet Kitchen and I got to see her latest hair colour. I absolutely love it and she looks even more fab than ever!

Museum of Sex Shoes

The Museum of Sex in New York was really fun and I even managed to capture some shoe pix while wandering through the exhibits.

Dublin is home to so many beautiful and vibrant doors that it's impossible to pass by and not feel compelled to snap a pic.

Queer Eye Reboot

So I had serious doubts about this new series but I scored overtime at work and put it on in the background. It's as good as the original and made me weepy through each episode. The gents are all caring and fun (even though Jonathan uses the word "like" far too often for my taste) and while I don't like the "tear-down" section of make-over shows (you know, where they poke fun at the person's style or living space or wardrobe) it was really great to see the effect that the Fab Five and the gentleman in question had on one another. It's a show that leaves you with a whole lot of feel-goodery and I'm already looking forward to another season!

Everything Sucks!

Evan recommended this series to me and I really liked it. The soundtrack was a walk through my younger days - so many fabulous 90s songs!!
