31 Spooky Flicks!

This October I decided to watch a spooky, suspenseful, or Halloweenie movie a day. I even enlisted some recommendations from Chrissy, Sean, Wayne, Xavier, Dave, and Kayla. Here's the final tally of films for the month.

♥ Poltergeist
♥ The Car
♥ The Changeling
Ghost Story
bonus: Peppa Pig's Halloween
House on Haunted Hill (1959)
Hellraiser (eh - this one doesn't count as I fast forwarded through most of it.)
♥ Watcher in the Woods
♥ Mr. Boogedy
The Skull
Hocus Pocus
I Know What You Did Last Summer
♥ The Fog
♥ Halloween
The Curse of Frankenstein
♥ The Tingler
* The Revenge of Frankenstein
The Little Vampire
Zombeavers
bonus: ♥ The Mummy (1999)
Elvira: Mistress of the Dark
bonus: The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959)
♥ Stranger Things (I know, I know, it's not a film, but I say it counts.)
Halloweentown
♥ The Ghost and Mr. Chicken
Scream
1408
♥ House of the Long Shadows
Horror Express
♥ 13 Ghosts
The Creeping Flesh
♥ Donnie Darko
Bram Stoker's Dracula
Teen Witch
♥ The Exorcist

Sadly, I wasn't able to see Frankenstein Created Woman this month, but Helen Coldwell created another masterpiece for me, which more than made up for it. I asked if I could commission her to sketch Peter so that I could have him displayed in my home and she sent this to me free of charge in honour of Inktober. (Little does she know that I am working on a box of American treats to ship her way sometime next month!)

* - liked
♥ - loved
Any unmarked titles were, in my opinion, so-so.
(Hellraiser, The Creeping Flesh, and 1408 are tied for the worst of the month. Just big time UGH!)

Halloween Cards 2021

I scored a cute card with fun stickers from Amy and a super-rad card from Barbara hand-made by her daughter Sophie. I also got a cute ghostie from Bishop & Pax, a thank you card from Uncle Alan after he got the Halloween card I sent, and then a card from my father's childhood bestie, Greg and his lovely wife, Carole. Nothing feels quite like the zing! from seeing a fun card in the mailbox!

Only Murders In The Building

In my quest to watch mysteries and spookies this month I signed up for another month of Hulu and binge-watched Only Murders In The Building, thanks entirely to Marina. I had seen clips about the series in Instagram ads but never looked it up. Then when M and I were hanging out last weekend she showed me the pilot ep and I was hooked. Today I watched the whole series and man, oh man, is it good! I even went over to Mama Rosie's to do some laundry and watched the first four with her. I can't wait for the next series and see what these three get up to next!

Delicious Treats

Friday night I swung by Krispy Kreme and brought 1.5 dozen down to Xavier and crew. I got to see all five of them and snapped a picture of Syd, usually super dooper purty, sporting gross, grey toofahs. Still one heck of a cutie, though!

Kay & Kenny Jack o' Lants!

Look at the jack-o'-lanterns that Kay and her BF Kenny carved! (Kayla did Sally and Kenny did Jack.)

(Look at these two adorable cutie-patooties!)

The Phantom of the Opera

Today I went to The Colonial to see the Lon Chaney version of The Phantom of the Opera with live organ music by Bernie Anderson. It was such a fantastic experience especially around Halloween. There were a decent number of people attending and I scored my usual spot up in the balcony. The music was so perfect that almost from the very beginning I completely forgot that it was live. I snagged a mini movie of one scene, since there was no one near me or behind me that I would be bothering, and it really shows how perfectly Mr. Anderson matched the music to the film. I look forward to seeing more silent films presented with live music as Phantom was so much fun!

Goldie Friday

Yesterday I had brunch with Kay at the new Goldie's location in Fishtown then met Bella for lunch at the Goldie's in Whole Foods Center City. I was so stuffed that I just wanted to barf and then nap. Kayla skipped dinner the night before so as to save room for her giant falafel sandwich and Isabella skipped breakfast! Didn't matter as none of us could finish a falafel combo of sandwich, Tehina shake, and fries. But that just meant we had leftovers for after we recovered. As always it was so great to just catch up with m'gals and hang out for a bit.

Peter Scolari

This afternoon while Bella and I arrived to Goldie's at Whole Foods in Center City I got a text from Bishop that Peter Scolari had passed away. What a damn shame. Ever since I was a kid and watched Bosom Buddies any chance I got, I instantly loved everyone from the cast. Peter as Henry/Hildegard Desmond, Tom Hanks as Kip/Buffy Wilson, Holland Taylor as the glamourous Ruth Dunbar, Wendie Jo Sperber as the hilarious and beautiful Amy Cassidy. Those were four of thee best characters ever to appear on television, as far as I'm concerned, and each were played to perfection. It was always great to see each of them in different roles after the series ended. Seeing Peter in Girls was such a treat and pretty much the only reason I watched it. He'll always hold a special place in my heart as Henry and I'm just really sad that he is gone so soon.

Stunning in Scranton

Since I've followed CheapOldHouses on Instagram I noticed that the MidCenturyModern account would often pop up as a recommendation. I finally scrolled through some and decided to follow. Why not, right? I'll do anything to add to my daydreaming. This one listing in Scranton, PA has a stunning living room/library. It's just gorgeous. (But in my daydream there'd be no leather furniture - bleck!)
