Fleet of Angels

Stefanie Powers posted about this organisation and what they are doing to help abandoned and rescued horses during the LA Fires this month. It's always tough to figure out which charity is trustworthy, so when a celeb backs them up, I feel better about making a donation and feeling secure that it will go where it is intended.

Fleet of Angels has been called "the most responsive national go-to organization in the country" for helping horse owners and small rescues when they need urgent assistance after being devastated by a natural disaster or other major emergency. 

We urgently need your help with the challenge of keeping horses safe and in good care through the seemingly unending crises currently affecting horses in the United States and beyond.  Never before in our history have we been asked to help so many horse owners and small rescues overcome challenges that threaten the wellbeing of equines in their care. Horses suffer if we aren't able to step up, and we hope that you will join us in our goal of never having to turn our backs on equines in crisis due to a lack of funds. 

From devastating wildfires still raging in the west to catastrophic hurricanes in the south and east, and with both draught and flooding wrecking havoc in between, disasters are putting incredible numbers of horses and their equine relatives in very perilous situations.  

Our goal is to keep horses safe and in good care so they can stay with their loving families and equine friends, giving their owners more time to regroup, repair, and start to recover from devastating situations. By providing a combination of grants and services, Fleet of Angels provides qualified applicants' horses with what they need to stay safe and healthy during temporary challenges.

No other equine-centric nonprofit in the country laser-focuses its resources on the mission of providing grants and critical services to both private owners and small rescues to help horses through crises.

ARC Firefighter Fund

There are nearly 1,000 incarcerated firefighters currently battling the Los Angeles fires. As part of a voluntary program within CDCR, these men and women earn between $5.80 to $10.24 per day, working in 24 hour shifts.

Support these unsung heroes today by donating to our “FIREFIGHTER FUND”. Every dollar you give will go towards:

Immediate needs: ‘thank you’ meals, food trucks, hygiene supplies including shower trucks, clothing and equipment for our crew members on the ground battling the Palisades and Eaton fires

Fire camp upgrades: new televisions, microwaves, gym equipment, sports equipment and more.

Scholarship funds for individuals once they’re released: support for school supplies, housing, utilities, rent, as well as necessary equipment those entering professional firefighting careers.

These are the same men and women our society once threw away, and now they are risking their lives to save ours. Let’s honor the dignity and humanity in each of us because you never know who will need saving and who will be the hero.

Pocketful of Happiness

I was dreading today for the past few months. The day when things would inevitably become worse. When a despicable madmen would once again be at my country's helm, no doubt steering us towards a terrifying future, and one that we might never recover. So I decided today that I would cultivate bits of joy. Here's what I did to help combat the sorrow that I feel:

- slept til 11

- went for a long drive

- listened to a new audiobook - Riley Sager's The Only One Left

- stopped at MOM's in PA for a Jammed Yam from Naked Lunch (I'm obsessed with them!)

- took the long way home and listened to my Streetlight Fancies playlist

- dropped by Mum's to chat a bit and pick up the new space heater I ordered (it's gonna be mega cold this week and I'm so glad I ordered a replacement heater so I don't freeze my baguettes off!)

- came home, texted with Michel a bit, who sent condolences and wishes for us all to survive the next four years

- watched some episodes of The Nanny so I could laugh

- bundled under some blankets and enjoyed my fave chocolate ice cream (Trader Joe’s Coconut Ice Cream is divine!)

All we can do is hope that what that maniac does in office will be able to be undone, but somehow I fear that the world is doomed. I will continue to follow Joan Washington's advice for her family and locate a pocketful of happiness in every day until a new leader, one with compassion, integrity, and decency, is elected.

David Lynch

Yesterday I got word from Bishop that my favourite filmmaker and one of the universe's most gifted artists had left the earth. It got me thinking about when Ashlee and I went to see Catherine Coulson at the PAFA back in December of 2014. David Lynch's Unified Fields was on display there and after Ms. Coulson spoke and we watched a couple of her fave Twin Peaks episodes, we wandered through the museum to see some of Lynch's art. I didn't take many photos and they aren't all that great so I'm thinking that maybe photography wasn't allowed and so I would hide my phone behind Ash and snap some. I know this had to be the case because I remember there being a painting with airplanes that I loved {Airplanes - 2013}. I would have taken a photo of that if I could. Either way, here are some that I captured. David Lynch was a singular talent. A man who had ideas and visions and saw things unlike anyone else. He left behind a massive legacy of fascinating films and curious paintings, but I wish he hadn't left so soon.
