December 2018 Donations

Thrive Market

I received this email on December 4th and just had to place an order and make a donation. I love what this company does.

Dear Thrive Market Community,

As most of you know, November was a devastating month here in California. First the Woolsey fire, just 20 miles north of us here in Los Angeles. Then the even larger Camp Fire in Northern California, which destroyed nearly 14,000 homes, killed 88 people, and left hundreds of others missing. I want to extend our sincere condolences to any of you who suffered loss during this time.

I also want to thank our community—all of you—for stepping up in so many ways to support us, each other, and families displaced over the last several weeks. Within hours of the news, our Member Services and Fulfillment teams were rerouting orders for members forced to leave their homes, while our Social Media team was using Instagram and Facebook to connect directly with members and non-members alike to offer aid.

Thanks to the outpouring of support and donations from Thrive Market members across the country, we have already been able to donate:

Over $30,000 of free groceries directly to displaced families
$10,000 toward temporary shelters for 25 families
$3,000 of diapers to the Community Housing Improvement Program in Chico, CA
The need is ongoing, so for the entire month of December, 100% of your donations at checkout will go toward providing groceries for victims of the fires. Please read some of the testimonials below to see how much your donations matter!

On top of that, for the next two days (Dec. 4-5), we’ll be matching every purchase of a Thrive Market Collection product with a donation of a product of the same value (focused on the most needed items).

It’s at times like these that I find myself feeling most grateful to be part of a company and community that is so committed to doing good.

In gratitude,
Nick Green

AIDS Fund Philly

December 1st was World AIDS Day and I wanted to donate to AIDS Fund Philly for their constant work in the City of Brotherly Love.

AIDS Fund's mission is to educate about, and increase public awareness of, HIV/AIDS and to provide emergency financial assistance to people living with HIV disease and organizations providing HIV services in our communities. In 1987, volunteers from Philadelphia's lesbian and gay community center, Penguin Place, organized a Walk-A-Thon to support area AIDS agencies and raise public awareness about the disease. Philadelphia's first AIDS Walk raised $33,000. Since then, thousands of fundraising walkers have gathered each year to participate in the region's largest annual HIV/AIDS public awareness and fundraising event. To date, the regional AIDS Walk has raised almost $16.7 million for HIV/AIDS public awareness, prevention, and care services for people living with HIV disease.

Since its founding in 1989, AIDS Fund has expanded its activities beyond the annual AIDS Walk to include the popular monthly fundraiser GayBINGO, which has gained national recognition through a WHYY documentary that aired on PBS stations nationwide; Black-Tie GayBINGO, a more formal version of our monthly event which features a silent auction, dinner, dancing, and, of course, GayBINGO; Workplace Giving Campaigns, which provide employees an easy way to contribute to the fight against HIV/AIDS through payroll deductions; a Holiday Toy Drive which collects and distributes toys to children infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS; and numerous public awareness projects including the "AIDS in Philly" video series and 1981-Until It's Over… multimedia display and sidewalk timeline. AIDS Fund also produces a variety of smaller events and public awareness activities throughout the year.

Since its founding, AIDS Fund has remained committed to the philosophy that by coming together, each individual can make a difference in the fight against HIV/AIDS in our community. AIDS Fund volunteers, donors, and corporate sponsors are valued for their compassion and their response to the AIDS epidemic.

God's Love We Deliver

The mission of God’s Love We Deliver is to improve the health and well-being of men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other serious illnesses by alleviating hunger and malnutrition. We prepare and deliver nutritious, high-quality meals to people who, because of their illness, are unable to provide or prepare meals for themselves. We also provide illness-specific nutrition education and counseling to our clients, families, care providers and other service organizations.
God’s Love We Deliver is the New York City metropolitan area’s leading provider of nutritious, individually-tailored meals to people who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves.
Founded in 1985 when one woman began delivering food on her bicycle to a man dying from AIDS, God’s Love now cooks more than 7,000 meals each weekday, delivering them to clients living with life-altering illnesses in all five boroughs of New York City, Westchester and Nassau Counties, and Hudson County, New Jersey. All of our services are provided free of charge to our clients, their children and to the senior caregivers of our senior clients, without regard to income, and we have never maintained a waiting list.

God’s Love We Deliver is a non-sectarian organization, providing meals with the strong belief of “food as medicine.” To that end, we employ a team of registered dietitians who individually tailor meals to each client’s specific medical requirements. God’s Love provides all services by employing a small but dedicated professional staff and with the critical assistance of 13,000 volunteers annually.

About-Face

- About-Face’s vision is for women and girls to lead full lives, unconstrained by a preoccupation with appearance and body image, and for media representations of women and girls to be gender-balanced or gender-neutral.

To move toward our vision, About-Face improves girls’ and women’s self-esteem and body image through equipping them with tools to understand and resist harmful media messages. That is, we teach media literacy and a host of other life skills, as well as the skills to take action to make social change.

Please join me in the Low Budget Philanthropy movement and help out your community and beyond in the simplest way - donating any amount to whatever charity or organisation that you care about!
