Friends from the Library

Saturday morning I was walking the path beside the lake toward the library. I turned my head from the new little ducklings and noticed a pile of torn photographs. I have a deep love of pictures and was kinda upset to think that someone would rip up what appeared to be sweet family photos and throw them on the ground. So, like the nutcase that I am, I rescued the pictures, took them home, cleaned them up and taped them together. There is one woman that appeared in so many of the photographs and I wish to hell I knew who she was...

Skeet Ulrich

Last weekend my grandmother told me of a Hallmark Hall of Fame film called The Magic of Ordinary Days. Nana Irma raved about the performances and was particularly taken by Skeet Ulrich. She loaned me her DVD copy and I called her right after I finished it to discuss. I agreed with her that it was a truly sweet movie and I really did enjoy it. During our talk, Nana paid Mr. Ulrich a lovely compliment when she said, "He has the most expressive eyes. He conveys so much in a single look. I have never been so impressed with a young actor as I was with Skeet. He deserves more accolades."

Courtney Love

~by Kellee Dasaras
Back in '94 I was corresponding with Kellee, a young artist living in Edmonton Canada, who I had met thru Icon, the Madonna fan club. She and I were both crazy for Courtney Love at the time and Kellee was sweet enough to sketch this portrait for me and send it. To this day it remains framed in my bedroom. I think it's perfect.

Giancarlo Giannini

This man is the answer to that dinner party question: Who, out of any celebrity in history, at any point in said celebrity's life, would you most like to spend an evening with? My answer is Giancarlo Giannini; yesterday, today, tomorrow, and forever. He is my gold standard.

Rosemary

Voices from a photograph
Laughed from your wall
Screamed through your dreams
Wake up Rosemary and wipe your teary eyes

Rise and cross the cold bare floor
And watch the moon through frosted glass
Damn that photograph
I'll have to take it down

She hears the boats as they move down the river
She sees a dog straining hard on his leash to get away
She hears the clock and it strikes like a hammer
Pounding the nails one day further in the coffin of her youth

Evenings with your mother's friends
Pregnant eyes, sagging chins
Swollen fingertips
Pour antique cups of tea

Who are you and where you been?
Suspended in a weightless wind
Watching trains go by
From platforms in the rain

Look at the photograph
Dream back last summer
Dream back the lips
Of that traveling salesman, Mr. Jim

He smelled of miracles
With stained glass whispers
You loved his laughter
You tremble beneath him once again

That's what I want
A new shot at life
But my coat's too thin
My feet won't fly

And I watch the wind and I see another dream blowin' by

LoML

the sea has been extra rough these past few years......so i was trying to tend to my lighthouse...thats when i noticed my castle was on fire...its not that i could see my castle from where i was at, it was that it appeared in my dreams...and the manifestations of love were in that castle...my life was in that castle and most importantly, my girl was in that castle...so i made a mad dash to that castle just to watch it be engulfed in flames...i did not hesitate to run in to the room where my love was to be...the last thing i felt was a heat so intense that it was both hot and cold, causing my skin to boil, and the last thing i saw was my girl running away with a man in one hand and a gas can in the other......

My Mum - Style Icon

On a weekend down the shore with friends back in the Summer of 1972, Mama Rose looks hip and confident with her sassy eyewear, skin tight jeans, and little spit-curls. She's just as fashionable now but would most likely beat me with a cat-a-nine-tail if I posted a more current photo. Happy Mama's Day, Mum!! You rock.

Peter Falk Sketches

I was flipping through some old scrapbooks from when I was younger and found I'd cut these Peter Falk drawings from a magazine. This man needs to put out a book of his artwork because it's so beautiful.

Nice - Vue au Jardin Public

Nice, Dec 16th 1910

Thanks for your letter, just received. - Glad you liked the postals. We are all well, and enjoying this out of door life. I was pleased to hear that your wife is so much better. With kind remembrances to you all.

I can't tell you how much I adore getting more postcards with each trip to Murphy's Loft. It's almost as though I myself were opening my mailslot and receiving these lovely postcards from all over the world....

Bill and Judith - April 1990

Kat and I love visiting the library around the corner from my place. Occasionally while we chat with friends at the check out, there will be found photographs tapped onto the register. Langston always lets me take them and some are framed in my home. I so enjoy naming the people in the photos and trying to create a backstory. Clearly Bill and Judith have been married for eons. They had met at a mutual friend's party when Bill was in college and Judith was a senior. They've been head over heels ever since.

SJP's Butterfly Ring

This is without question one of the most stunning pieces of jewelry I've ever seen. I'm not much of a girly girl, but this ring I would wear every day, all day. However, I'd prefer the wings to be made of brighter stones - garnets, rubies, emeralds or sapphires. The only thing that overshadows this ring is the chivalry of Matthew Broderick carrying his lovely wife so as to save her shoes from the rainfall. What a guy!
