In February of '96 I saw an
adorable lion at the Hallmark shop in my hometown and told my Da that I really wanted the lion stuffed animal with a heart for Valentine’s Day that's for sale at the local Hallmark store. True to form he forgot what I asked for and instead got me a pink bear. Which I like, still have, and named Amelia Bareheart.
(Not sure why I spelled her name that way. Maybe because she "bared" her heart?? Who knows. I was an odd nineteen year old.) I'd no memory of what said lion looked like but on a lark, I dashed to ebay last week and typed in "vintage Hallmark lion plush" and voila! Kitt the Lion appeared! Always one to try and repair the heartbreak of my younger self, I ordered myself one and he arrived in no time, and just cute as can be. But Kitt is on my top 25 least favourite names so it had to go. I went with Dickie; short for Richard the Lionheart.
(Jackson approved!) Dickie is very sweet and although at near 50, I really do not need another stuffed pal, I couldn't resist.
