Bad Behaviour

Last night while hanging out with Xavier and Jax, I managed to bribe Jackson into taking some pictures with me. If he posed like I told him to, he could play with my iPhone, which basically means he sits and scrolls through the pictures and videos. We wound up watching random videos on YouTube of baby panda bears playing on a slide which Jax declared to be, "So cute!!!" They so were.

Eventually Jack took my mala beads (or mama beans as Jackson pronounced them) off my wrist and put them around his neck. Xavier said he looked like a little blonde Jim Morrison, walking around with no shirt on and just a necklace while staggering a bit (from sleepiness, not drug use). Our very own Lizard King.

Resurrect Dead

Finally got a chance to learn more about those intriguing Toynbee tiles. I'm definitely not obsessed by them, as the filmmakers are, but I think they are truly fascinating and I will certainly be keeping my eyes to the ground whenever I'm walking in Philly.

Countdown

Twenty-four days til I leave for Antwerpen! This time all by my lonesome. I'm hoping to get some writing done at Wout's apartment, find some vegan eats, and visit some museums. So far this is my To See list:
  • the building from Loft on Cockerillkaai ✔
  • Rosenobel for Seitan Toast!
  • Goossens in the Jewish Quarter to see if they make any chocolate that's vegan ✔
  • Think Twice on Sint Jacobsmarkt for second hand goodies ✔
  • Jutka en Riska for vintage finds ✔
  • the buildings on Cogels-Osylei
  • Zeno X Gallery in Borgerhout
  • Photo and Film Museum
  • Plantin-Moretus Museum
  • Graffiti Forest in Spoor Noord Park
  • Steen and Been on Volkstraat for interesting stone carvings ✔
  • De Roma in Borgerhout to see The Grand Budapest Hotel ✔
  • MAS for a view of the city from above and to find out more about Antwerp
  • visit the Left Bank to see Antwerp from the other side
I'm not gonna take as many pictures as I did earlier this year, since I'll be on my own and don't wanna look like an outsider (stay gold, ponyboy), so I think I'll try to take metaphorical photographs. Write down what certain spots look like, maybe if they reminded me of a place I'd been before, how it smelled, and what the people there wore and what they looked like. Mostly I want to avoid tripping over my luggage, colliding into bicyclists, and generally looking foolish and out of place.

Enough Said

(photo kidnapped from moviebuzzers)

When I saw this poster in the lobby of the Ritz at the Bourse on November 17th of last year I knew I had to see it. Gandolfini with a beard and Julia Louis-Dreyfus = perfection. Time passed and it wasn't until last week that I remembered that I hadn't gotten a chance to check it out. Til now. Just within the first twenty minutes I found myself covering my mouth while giggling and absolutely adoring Eva and Albert. They shared one of the best first dates I've ever seen on film. Just love, love, loved it.

I've seen Nicole Holofcener's other films and genuinely liked each one (well, I wasn't super crazy about Walking and Talking. Maybe I need to give it another chance.). I suppose what I especially like is the honesty in her dialogue, and this film is definitely her best work to date.

There's one point, when Gandolfini flashes that sweet smile of his, where I got a little teary-eyed. There are so many more films of his that will never be and that's such a sad, sad thought. But Enough Said was just beautiful.

Tie Phone Case

How stinkin' clever is this?? I love when people recycle something that seems to no longer be of use and turn it into something wonderful and useful again. So cute!!
