December 2025 Books

November - I only read one book all month so I'm piggy-backing it in the December post.

♥ My Effin' Life ¹ by Geddy Lee - I'm not a fan of Rush in regards to their music. I've tried but I just don't dig it. However, being a mega documentary film dork, I saw Beyond the Lighted Stage a few years back and was really taken by how fabulous those three men are as human beings. I truly respect their work, even though I can't bear to listen to it. (I'm so sorry!!!) When I saw that lead singer and bassist, Geddy Lee, put out a memoir I picked it up. I listened to it on my way home from Ohio and absolutely loved it. All the stories about his childhood, his parents, Alex (Lifeson, the guitarist) and Neil (Peart, drummer) made me love those guys even more. In a world full of shitty "rock star" men who behave abominably, be a member of Rush. These boys are the real deal.

December

* Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid by Jimmy Carter - I was hoping that this would give me 100% clarity on Palestine but it only got me about halfway. I am definitely not an intellectual and most of anything to do with politics goes right over my head.

♥ An Inconvenient Woman by Dominick Dunne - Another spectacular novel from a brilliant writer. I gotta say, after closing this book, I think Dominick has pushed Henry Rollins out of the number one spot as my favourite writer. Can't wait to dive in and finish reading all of Dunne's books. I only have three more to go!

Merry Christmas Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parish with illustrations by Lynn Sweat - I had heard of Amelia Bedelia books but this was my first time reading one. That gal is dumb as a bag of hammers. Thankfully I was able to read the whole thing on one smoke break and immediately drive it to a Little Free Library. I mean, I think if I was a seven year old, I'd have found it funny, but at fifty, all I could think was how effing clueless this chick was.

** A Die Hard Christmas by Doogie Horner with illustrations by JJ Harrison - Oh my gosh, this was so freakin' cute! I even bought a copy for Kenny for Books & Cooks Tour this year.

♥ Santaland Diaries ¹ by David Sedaris - It's not December if I haven't listened to this!

♥ A Christmas Story ¹ by Jean Shepherd - So good. But Dick Cavett telling the Bumpus story has me in tears every time.

* Mr. Willowby's Head Over Heels Christmas by Robert Barry - Not as cute as Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree but it's a keeper.

♥ The Snowstorm by Beryl Netherclift - I picked this book up late last year at a filthy book shop in Bryn Mawr. I mean it was ga-ross. I was convinced upon leaving that I was walking out of there with rickets and body lice. Never planning to go back. But, I did grab a seasonal book that was so fun. Set in England, three children are sent to the home of their Aunt in the countryside for Winter. They discover a mystical, magical snowglobe and adventure begins. I will one hundred percent be re-reading this.
Quote takeaways from The Snowstorm:

Don't have a wishbone where your backbone ought to be.

Time and space are only forms of thought...

¹ - audiobook
² - abridged version
* - liked
♥ - loved
Any unmarked titles were, in my opinion, so-so.
