Of all the times to be on the other side of the world...Armistead Maupin's Instagram announced that the man himself was having a garage sale! Oh how I would have loved to go...

Meetin' Up at the Gate
Reached my gate at Philly International and, knowing that my nephew was working that day, shot him a text just to see if he was near enough for a hello and a hug. He got right back to me and a handful of minutes later he appeared! We got to sit and chat and when I asked for a selfie he said, "Yeah, sure. I knew this was coming." Ha! He knows me so well. It was a great send off.

Tidying Up
I had heard of Marie Kondo and her book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up maybe five years ago. I know people had said that her method of organising was life changing but it was something I just never looked into any further. Finally this week I decided to go through my Netflix queue and pick something light. "Ahhh....Marie Kondo...okay, let's give this a shot." Wow. I binged the series and when I return later this month from my trip, I am so gonna dive into tidying up my home. I'm actually looking forward to the process and trying out her method. More to come on that in later posts!

Midnight Lace
When I was in high school and we finally got cable, I became obsessed with AMC - American Movie Classics. I had a wall calendar with all the films that I wanted to check out. The best way to do this was to choose the ones on after midnight so that I could program the VCR and it wouldn't interfere with what any other family members wanted to watch. One of those films was Midnight Lace. I was probably about seventeen. It was a Saturday morning and my brothers and father were nowhere to be found. That meant it was time to grab a plate of grub, flop down on that old navy blue plaid sofa, under the green and cream coloured zig-zag Afghan and pop in last night's flick. Mama Rose was in the laundry room, switching the clothes from the washer into the dryer when she hollered in, "Whatcha watchin'?" Doris Day had just found her way home through the fog, into her flat and husband Rex Harrison's loving embrace. "It's Midnight Lace," I yelled back. "Oh! Can you believe _________ did it?" Are you freakin' kidding me, Mom!!! I wasn't super pissed, actually, it was kind of funny. Years and years later we watched Sean Connery and Gena Rowlands have virtually the same interaction in Playing By Heart.
This time around I really could appreciate how good Doris Day was and how smokin' hot John Gavin was! Definitely a great film to watch on a Saturday with your Mom. Even if she spoils the ending.

Goldie Falafel with Bella
For the first time in (oh my gosh) five months Bella and I finally reconnected yesterday for lunch in Philly. She had her first falafel and there's no going back. She's hooked. We got caught up on each other's lives and started daydreaming about traveling again. Wouldn't that just be about the best thing ever?
