April 2025 Books

The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt byRiel Nason with illustrations by Byron Eggenschwiler - I had this in my Amazon cart and while going through it to delete items, I managed to locate a copy of this through my local library and it was super cute with charming illustrations.

* I'm No Philosopher ¹ by Kristin Chenoweth - Ever since I first saw Pushing Daisies I instantly loved this gal. She's talented as hell, versatile, and just plain adorable. I know she's a big fan of the Lord, but I gave her book a try. She quoted some bible verses and stuff but it wasn't pushy on the God-stuff and was a quick and delightful read.

Stuart Little ¹ by E. B. White - Cute, but somehow I felt the ending was really lacking. It didn't leave me satisfied. I do remember adoring this and E.B. White's other children's books when I was in grade school but this wasn't as good as I remembered.

The Mystery of the Stone Tiger by Carolyn Keene - Coming to the end of my Mildred Wirt Benson Nancy Drew Mysteries, I was hoping this would be a fun one and it did not disappoint. Definitely a keeper!

The New Menopause ¹ by Dr. Mary Claire Haver - Chock full of information! This is essential reading for anyone with a uterus or who loves someone with a uterus. Helped me understand what I'd gone through, what to expect, and how to stay as healthy as possible, in regards to my reproductive organs.

The Color Purple ¹ by Alice Walker - Wonderfully narrated by author Alice Walker, listening to The Color Purple again after so many years was so good. When I was maybe in high school or college I started reading it but stopped when it got to be primarily all about Celie and her letters. When I was working in the café, an older black woman customer and I got to talking about books and The COlor Purple came up. I told her I loved the first half but couldn't get past the letters. She looked me square in the eye and firmly but gracefully told me "Get past it." I went home that night and picked it up again. And she was completely right. It was a fabulous novel.

* The House on the Cliff by Franklin W. Dixon - My first Hardy Boys book! While not quite as engrossing as Nancy Drew, this was a fun and fast read. Two more Hardy Boys books are on my shelf already!

¹ - audiobook
² - abridged version
* - liked
♥ - loved
Any unmarked titles were, in my opinion, so-so.
