Eastern State Penitentiary

This afternoon Zach and I went in to Philly to tour Eastern State and then have lunch at Goldie Falafel. Neither of us had ever been to the prison and it was really interesting. Steve Buscemi narrates the audio tour and, of course, did a fantastic job. Thankfully the place was mostly quiet, save for a gaggle of giggly, loud teenage girls, and I was glad that we went on a weekday. I love photographing ruins but Eastern State was so grim and haunting that it added a-whole-nother layer to the sadness of a building that once was and now is mostly rubble.

The Annex Suite

At Wing's Castle I opted for us to stay in the Annex because it was a bit more private, with a kitchen, seating area, balcony off the upstairs, tunnel leading to the Dungeon, and a large patio in the back with the grounds and trails beyond.

This afternoon Kay and I drove to Millbrook in Upstate New York to spend two nights at Wing's Castle. It was pretty fantastic and exploring the grounds and tunnels was oodles of fun!
