November 2018 Donations

African Wildlife Foundation

The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) is the oldest international conservation organization focused solely on Africa. Since our founding in 1961, AWF has recognized that Africa’s wildlife resources and ecosystems are critical to the future prosperity of Africa and its people. Some key facts about AWF:
• With a geographic focus on the continent of Africa, AWF works with Africans at the local, regional and national levels to conserve the continent’s tremendous natural resources.
• We believe that development is good for Africa, as long as it is sustainable and balanced with biodiversity conservation.
• We focus on key African species, including elephants, rhinos, lions and other large carnivores, mountain gorillas and Africa’s other great apes.
• AWF is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, with offices throughout Africa and in Europe and North America.

How We Use Donations:
AWF makes lasting conservation impact with help from both public and private donor funding. We take pride in using donations efficiently and effectively: Eighty-eight cents of every one dollar
go directly to fund programs on the ground in Africa.
87% Programs
10% Fundraising
3% Administrative

(I get so damn mad thinking about people slaughtering animals for fun that it makes me wanna be one of those military patrols that carry machine guns and kill anyone that tries to harm the protected species. I would feel zero remorse. And yes, I realise how backwards it is to want to kill someone to stop them from killing but Jesus man, they need to be stopped.)

Boys Town

It had to be maybe the late Fall of 2009-ish when I first heard of Boys Town. I had started to donate money to certain charities and you know how they send your name to the four corners of the earth and suddenly your mailbox is full of random groups you've never heard of asking for a pledge. It was annoying, but turned out well for me, since it introduced me to new organisations to care about. Boys Life sent a little pack of Christmas Cards and one by Fred Swan was so beautiful I decided to send in a check. A couple weeks later, when the Winter weather was settling in I got a soft envelope from Boys Town. In it was a Norman Rockwell fleece throw, sent as a thank you. It should be stated that my house has no heat, only the occasional space heater and is always cold. This blanket, which I still use, endeared me to this charity and is why I always support them.

Boys Town believes today, as our founder did 100 years ago, that every child deserves a future, every family deserves to stay together and every community deserves to thrive. And we believe that all of these things should be achievable without regard to race, religion or background.

So, for the young man dodging gunfire on the streets just to get to school, the family torn apart by substance abuse, and the community crumbling from neglect and social disorder, Boys Town offers hope. But we offer hope as more than just an abstract concept; we substantiate it with programs and solutions grounded in our deep experience and supported by our decades of research.

Though we have grown to become a national organization that reaches communities from coast to coast, and our scope has expanded to include in-home family counseling, health care and programs to rebuild at-risk schools, Boys Town remains forever driven by our founder’s singular vision. And with your help, we will do so well into our second century and beyond.

Please join me in the Low Budget Philanthropy movement and help out your community and beyond in the simplest way - donating any amount to whatever charity or organisation that you care about!
