My Friends by Taro Gomi

Years ago I was really good friends with a co-worker who we called Jenny Penny/Jenny Power/Jenny Peoples. She was hilarious, had the best laugh ever and was so much fun to be with. Her one flaw? Her husband was, and probably still is, a deranged lunatic. But that is neither here nor there. When Jen was leaving her job at a small publishing house after they went out of business, she cleaned out her desk and came across a children's block book by Taro Gomi called "My Friends". She gave it to me, which was sweet in and of itself, but the best bit was that she took the time to go over every page and add notes on sticky paper that still makes me laugh to this day.

I learned to march from my friend the rooster.
(the rooster in my neighborhood thinks the sun rises from 9-1)

I learned to nap from my friend the crocodile.
(danger! this girl be stupid)

I learned to hide from my friend the rabbit.
(my rabbits are stupid)

(remarkably well-preserved easter egg)

I learned to kick from my friend the gorilla.
(look at her face! priceless!)

I learned to read from my friends the books.
(no longer my friends.)

I learned to play from from my friends at school.
(What a dick! + him too!)
