October 2018 Donations

World Wildlife Foundation

The World Wildlife Foundation, who I had donated to in August, has a Species Adoption that I just had to do for Jackson. I sat him down and scrolled through all the animals to choose from and who he wanted to adopt. He selected the Great White Shark. I talked to him for a bit about how sharks are scary and dangerous but they are not evil and they need to be protected.

Here's what the WWF has to say: Great white sharks are found in most temperate waters throughout the world, and are most common around Australia, South Africa and Northern California. Their diet consists of warm-blooded mammals, primarily pinnipeds (seals and sea lions), but also whales, dolphins, fish and squid. Caught for their jaws, teeth, leather and fins, which collect high prices and are in demand worldwide, great white sharks also face the threat of accidental capture in fishing gear, and animals that survive are often killed for their body parts.

Kawaii Kitty Café

Kayla first told me about these cafés and we had planned to head to South Philly for a visit but had to cancel at the last minute. I paid in advance and rather than it being used for our session with the kitties it would go to help run the place, since they do not refund. We will definitely check them out again, as it sounds like a fun place to visit for an afternoon. However, it is very hard to overlook the numerous spelling errors on their site. I corrected the information listed below.

In Japanese the adjective Kawaii translates to "Cute, Pretty, Charming, Dear, and Pet" and has sparked an entire colorful "Kawaii Culture" based on all things adorable; pastel colored inanimate objects with cute happy faces, doll-like fashion and music straight out of a Hello Kitty cartoon.

About ten years ago the first cat cafes began popping up in Tokyo and since, the concept has spread to countries world wide including England, Australia, Canada, Taiwan and recently, the United States with the first locations opening in Oakland, Portland, and New York City. When it came time to start planning Philadelphia's first cat cafe, it only seemed appropriate that we pay tribute to the roots of the concept and honor the Japanese "Kawaii" culture that started it all.

Our cat lounge is filled with cat friendly furniture, toys, nip, and of course, cardboard boxes. We have teamed up with the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) to provide a safe and friendly living environment for our kitties. They can live a long, happy, healthy life in our cafe with all the care and companionship they need.
