Seeing Voices
I thoroughly enjoyed Oliver Sack's An Anthropologist on Mars so when I was at Atomic Books and saw his book on the deaf community and deafness, I had to have it. It's a fascinating read and I was certainly enraged at people's ignorance toward the deaf community, especially the early days of the past century and beyond. I've been interested in sign language since grade school and took classes for ASL (American Sign Language) and Fingerspelling in college, but sadly, with no one to practice with, I've lost most of what I'd learned. Anyway, if you have any interest in deafness, check out Seeing Voices.
