The List

Over the years I had torn out pages from magazines that listed the 10, 100, 25, et cetera best movies lists. Best horror, indie, gay, classic, groundbreaking, you name it, I tore that list out and stuffed it in a box. Then in 2008 I was on unemployment (such a beautiful and blissful time...) and decided to write down the films and watch as many as possible. There were 180 films total and I managed to see 164 of them (if my math is correct...). Here's that entire list with an asterisk marking the ones I really, really liked.

  1. Gotta love those movie lists!!! I too have been dying to see CELINE AND JULIE GO BOATING with no success. However, of course, yours truly does have the truly magnificent LETTERS FROM AN UNKNOWN WOMAN as well as ZERO FOR CONDUCT (not a full length but a Jean Vigo short). Also I believe SUNRISE and THE WIND are on youtubers.

Speaking of Jean Vigo, I have the complete Jean Vigo Criterion dvd (he only made one feature film and several shorts so it ain't dat hard to be complete). Have you seen the thing that Criterion has been doing (these videos are also on youtuber): giving access to the Criterion closet of dvds and blu-rays to directors, actors, etc. and filming them selecting their faves and talking about them? Those I've seen enter the Criterion closet include Anna Karina, Charlotte Rampling, Alec Baldwin, Edgar Wright, Wallace Shawn AND Andre Gregory, Laurie Anderson, Michael Cera, William Friedkin, Richard Ayodade, Bong Joon Ho, The Brothers Quay, Wim Wenders, The Wolfpack and many more! It's fun to watch not only what movie mean the most to them but also how excited they get that they get to take home FREE DVD'S!!!!
