Joanna, Chateau Marmont

Last month I spoke of the first of only two female portraits from Volume 1 of Scott Caan's collection of photographs that I actually liked. That was Jamie's Back, this is Joanna, Chateau Marmont and it's gorgeous. I love the lighting, the gold wedding band on a hand with short nails that remain naked and unpainted. Her dark hair in the shadow with heavy bangs that hide her eyebrows and her sad, tearful eye that immediately draws you in. Is it just me that thinks this is a sad photo? Am I reading too deeply into it? Maybe she's merely sleepy or lost in thought, but I believe she's a heartbroken girl in a desperate hotel. Caan has created a stunning picture.
