RJ and Natasha

In October of 2023 I had a whole week with Lucy while her mother was off on a girls trip with pals. I got to take her to school, meet her at the bus, help with homework, do crafts and puzzles and just hang out before time to read and go night-nights. It was the highlight of the month and maybe the year. We watched a couple episodes of Hart to Hart and on the 13th we watched Robert Wagner do his first Instagram Live with his daughter, Natasha. Well, I watched it. Lucy zoned out after a couple minutes and turned to her iPad. During the IG Live I kept copy and pasting my note to ask "Mr. Wagner, what do you think of the lovely Natalie Perfumes?", which Natasha created. Finally, Barry (videographer and husband to Natasha), saw my question among the hundreds of messages and asked!

New York with Amy

Late last year (I think...) Amy and I got tickets to see yet another Hugh Jackman show on Broadway. He's kind of fallen out of favour with us since he left his wife of twenty-five plus years for a some young chippie. I get that marriages end, but to know he left her for someone else is pretty irritating. So we decided this will be our last time seeing him. The best was having zero anxiety for the entire day. No "oh-my-god, what if we're late" because honestly, I didn't care if we missed it at all. All the stars aligned and we got into the city with time to spare. The streets were lousy with humans and the heat of the day was taking it's toll on me. At a light, about ten blocks from Radio City, one of those Pedicabs pulled up. Amy later said he spotted me and knew I would not refuse a lift, with my face red as hell, a scowl on my puss,  and a fan in my hand. "Do you take credit cards?", I shouted to him. A nod yes. "Can you get us to Radio City?" Another nod. "Amy, get in." The doll that my bestie is said, "I got this. The ride is on me." I would later be so grateful for this because to go on an eight minute and thirty-five second ride it cost seventy-five bucks, plus Amy threw in a twenty-five dollar tip. Truth be told, as good as the concert was, (even though, if we are being honest, Jackman does not have a great voice, although he is a hell of an entertainer), that ride was the best part of the whole day. When we arrived, just barely!, to Radio City, our driver, Isroil, took our photo, then I convinced him to get a selfie with us, and he offered to pick us up after the show and take us to Times Square for free. Amy took down his number and damn if he didn't answer the call and come get us and take us to Times Square (so I could see the statue of George M. Cohan) for free

Meet Phineas Erik de Veuster

This beauty got his first name from a favourite fella of mine, Jon-Erik Hexum and the character Phineas Bogg that he played to perfection on Voyagers. His last name is in honour of another wonderful human, Father Damien, since I got Phineas yesterday, the 126th anniversary of Father Damien's death. Poor sweet Roark had 186,000 miles on him and was slowly growing weaker. I wanted to get in my car and feel confident, not anxiety-ridden about if I would arrive to my destination in one piece. I had a wonderful nine years with my cute lil' Ice Blue Mini Cooper, but turning to a reliable Toyota Corolla Hatchback felt like the right decision. Cute and zippy car in my forties and now, dark and sleek in my fifties. Here's to loads of road trips and good times in my new ride!

POST SCRIPT: I did not enjoy what appears to be an infestation of spiders in the side mirrors. Before I knew of their stowing away on Finn I left the doors open to put stuff from Roark in (bags for shopping and Lucy's car seat) and THREE got in the car and later there were FIVE outside! I nearly crashed Phineas when one of the fuckers ran across the windshield.

My First Postcrossing Postie!!!

All the way from New Zealand!! I discovered Postcrossing years ago but never followed through with seriously looking in to it. Then last month I stumbled on the name jotted in an old journal. I sent my first one to Germany and waited to see if I would receive one. And last night I checked my mail slot and hurrah!! I got one!!

Godmommy's Last Voicemail Message

On January 11th 2020, I got this sweet and heartbreaking final voice mail message from one of my favourite people ever, my Godmother, Gina. I immediately called her back and asked if I could come see her in the hospital the next day. Never one to say no to me, she acquiesced, even though she did not want to see anyone while she was in pain. The next afternoon Mum and I went to sit with her and I'm so glad I had one last time to see her and chat and make her laugh when I made a snarky comment about a certain relative of ours that shall remain nameless. Two days later she was gone and our family lost its coolest member.
