Happy Halloween 2019!

Here's a mish-mosh, hodge podge of last minute Halloweenie-ness! Starting with a photo of the girls and Farley that Ashlee texted me:

I got mail! Cards from Mum, Melissa, Renee, and Helen, who used an Elton John stamp!

And look! The 'scapes went all Halloweenie and check out Astrid Buttercup the kitty - she's a Bat-Cat! Adorbs. (In case you're curious, my pupper in Gardenscapes is named Scuttlebutt.)

And here's a list of the movies that I watched this month to stay in the holiday mood as I gorged myself on Halloween Oreo's.

Halloween (2018) - Eh. I liked the original and H20 way better, but the cage scene toward the end was pretty fantastic.
The Thing - Kurt Russell with a beard, Keith David (hubba hubba), Donald Moffat (love him!), Richard Masur (he's good in everything), creepy creatures and effects, scares a-plenty, eerie music, and cute and fluffy puppers. Does it get any better?!
28 Days Later - I hadn't seen this in years and had forgotten how really good it is. I still had to fast-forward through the scene where they are stuck in the underground tunnel - too intense for me! And that's with knowing that they'd get away. Oh, and Cillian Murphy's eyes are to die for.
The Ghost and Mr. Chicken - Saw this for the first time last year on Svengoolie and it's still so much fun to watch."Atta boy, Luther!"
The Burbs - This movie never, ever loses its ability to make me bust out laughing. The time around it was Queenie's little leap from grass to grass over the pavement. I swear I watched it at least ten times.
The Canterville Ghost - Thank you, YouTube for having this Alyssa Milano and John Gielgud movie from my childhood. So much fun.
Mr. Boogedy - My whole family absolutely loved this movie and all these years later it is still fabulous. The cast is outstanding with Richard Masur (second appearance on this list!), Mimi Kennedy who delivers the best line in the film "Time to call a real-tor.", David Faustino (so young!), John Astin, and Kristy Swanson as the quintessential eye rolling 1980s teenager girl. I watched this for free on YouTube before Disney tore it down...the DVD set of Boogedy and Bride of Boogedy are crazy expensive (forty-eight bucks!) so I'm glad I caught it just in time.
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow - I used to wake up early on Saturday mornings as a kid and watch this Jeff Goldblum flick any time of year. It's still pretty good and has held up well!
The Crow - In my teens I had this film's poster hanging in my teenage bedroom. God, Brandon Lee was beautiful and what a performance. Also, The Crow, has one of the best soundtracks ever to come out of the 1990s.
Scream - Another film from the 90s with an all-star cast - Skeet Ulrich, Matthew Lillard, Drew Barrymore, Henry Winkler, Courtney Cox, Rose McGowan, Jamie Kennedy, and of course, Neve Campbell - a fun premise, good acting, the perfect amount of gore without completely turning the viewer off, and the memories of seeing this in the theatre with friends and later renting it from Blockbuster. We were obsessed with this movie!
Watcher in the Woods - I was on a ride down memory lane with so many favorite spooky films from my childhood and no list would be complete without this Bette Davis classic. I always liked scary movies that were fun. Nothing that gave me nightmares, just the chills when I watched and this one was one of the best of the 80s.

That's all for now. In closing, here's a vampire version of my avatar that was too cool for words.

My Fave Halloween Episodes

Hart to Hart - Night Horrors
Jennifer and Jonathan go to a friends' housewarming at their new haunted house. Murder, mystery, and mayhem occur left and right but ends with the adorable couple "scaring" Max and Freeway with phony vampire teeth. One of my absolute all-time favourite episodes of the series.

Marry Me - Scary Me
The first half of this series was non-stop laughs. Jake and Annie set their apartment up as a haunted house for the kids in the building and dress up as zombie Ricky and Lucy's. Classic.

Modern Family - Open House of Horrors
Modern Family is known for having fun and inventive Halloween episodes, but for some reason, the one where Phil is trying to sell a house and trash talks the one Harry Potter kid stands out for me. I adore Phil.

Pushing Daisies - Girth
Halloween serves as a back drop for this episode that focuses on Olive's previous career as a horse jockey. Every single frame of this series is rich and lush and whimsical and when I watch it I am awash in a feeling of comfort and safety. No other series does this for me and that's why it's my favourite-favourite. (Hart to Hart and Rockford Files are tied for second place!)

Highway to Heaven - I Was a Middle Aged Werewolf
There is nothing that I do not love about this episode and it makes me laugh every single time I just think about it!

Community - Epidemiology
The costumes in this episode were outstanding - fun and creative. Jeff was David Beckham, so he just wore a sharp suit, looked hot, and carried a soccer/foot ball, Rich (how handsome and wonderful is actor Greg Comer, I ask you) in a naner suit is adorable, SeƱor Chang as Peggy Fleming was clearly the most hilarious, Abed as the alien from Alien was all kinds of creepy cool, Annie was Little Red Riding Hood (of course) and Britta as a lame looking T-Rex. I still don't remember who Shirley was supposed to be. Miss Piggy? Glinda? A pretty princess? Regardless, the Stand-out was Dean Pelton as Lady Gaga, which brought down the house, as only he can do.

Happy Endings - Spooky Endings
This show didn't have a single bad episode and the Halloween one was just fun. Alex is mistaken for a dude because her voice is all Demi Moore-husky from her cold, Brad and Jane are testing out the waters in suburbia, Dave goes as Austin Powers but forgets the bad teeth and everyone assumes he's Elton John. I'm still confused as to why and how Penny and Max pulled off that wacky Mama and baby outfit, which didn't last very long.

The Office - Halloween
Jim's "costume" as Three Hole Punch Jim was so lame and I totally loved it. Such a Jim thing to do.

• Stranger Things - Trick or Treat, Freak
The Ghostbusters costumes were so perfect and I love that Luke didn't wanna be Winston. Honestly, though, who wouldn't want to be Winston?! He was seriously the coolest of them all. I mean, he did say the film's final line.

• Parks and Recreation - Halloween Surprise
Jerry has a fart-attack. Honestly, that's all I remember from this episode that I have watched at least a half dozen times. I laughed so hard that I blocked out everything else but Jerry sliding down the wall, farting the whole way, clutching his chest in agony. Oh my god, so, so funny.

Halloween 1988

The grade school crew! This would have been about seventh grade and the only time I had friends over to celebrate Halloween. We even played Light-as-a-Feather-Stiff-as-a-Board and I swear to GOD it worked and freaked all of us out. Top to bottom, left to right we have Melanie as the quintessential French maid, Vanessa as a fabulous sorceress, with exceptional makeup, which if memory serves, she did herself, then Desiree as a snow bunny, me as a witch who couldn't be bothered to wear a hat (I guess that mullet I was growing out was too hot to hide??), then seated is Megan as a 1950s teenager in a poodle skirt and Nicole as damned if I can remember.

An Ideal Home for the Fall

When I see sweet, small, cozy suburban homes like this I always long to peer into the windows; to see what's being set on the dinner table for supper. I wonder who lives there, what is the interior colour scheme like, are there kids doing homework while big brother or sister talks on their phone or watches TV? Who is taking out the trash tonight and has the dog been walked? What are their names and are they happy? What's the upstairs bathroom like and what does the house smell like? So many unanswered questions...but it's fun to let my imagination run wild and dream up the family that lives there, what they do for a living and all the details that make them unique.

Autumn in Andalusia

Saturday afternoon Anne and I went to visit Andalusia by the Delaware and it was a perfect day to be outdoors and tour the lovely grounds.
