Fried Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich
½ cup butter, softened
¾ cup crunchy peanut butter
3 tablespoons honey
1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 to 3 ripe bananas
8 slices white bread
Topping:
¼ cup sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Directions:
In a frying pan, melt 3 tablespoons of the butter. In a small bowl mix together the peanut butter, honey, and cinnamon. Slice the bananas into ¼-inch thick slices. Spread the peanut butter mixture on 4 slices of bread and cover with banana slices. Top with the remaining 4 slices of bread. Spread the remaining butter on both sides of the sandwiches. Grill the sandwiches in the frying pan until each side is golden brown.
For topping, combine the sugar and cinnamon in shallow plate. Coat the grilled sandwiches with the mixture. Cut diagonally and serve hot.
A place to reminisce about the good things that life offers, especially those insignificant moments that tend to be overlooked.

Makin' Me Smile
1. This kid right here:
2. Getting mail! Letters from my niece Bella and my cousin Emily and packages from Amazon. This past week I got a bonus postcard from my six year old nephew who asked, "Dear Star, When can we get together? Love, Logan"
3. Conversations with Michael. We may be the only people who have weekly discussions about topics such as Buddhism, the Catholic Church, interactions with the mentally ill and addicted as well as with convicted murderers and then seamlessly transition to our favourite sex acts and positions. We usually end the evening cracking up laughing at how we go from transcendental to downright filthy. We wouldn't have it any other way.
4. The Feminist Ryan Gosling Blog - this site is stinkin' hysterical and informative. Love it.
5. Getting new stickers and adding them to my latest sticker book - because I am five and a half and it's 1984.
6. Lately I can't stop daydreaming about my upcoming trip to Italy with my niece, Nicole. I can see us walking through Rome at night, dodging the gypsies and checking out dreamy Italian men, sitting on the Spanish Steps, and gorging ourselves on pizza and gelato. But mostly I see me photographing her incessantly. Nicole is one of my all time favourite subjects. She is statuesque, strikingly beautiful, with an engaging smile, lovely green eyes, and an air of elegance.
7. Talking to a very pregnant Marina in Colombia over FaceTime for the first five hours of my shift. We just couldn't stop talking. With so many miles between us, it's so wonderful to see her face and hear her voice.
8. Being totally done all Christmas shopping before December. Tonight I stamp all the cards and tomorrow I get J9's gifties through the post, wrap 'em up and I am DONE! That is the only way I can make December as stress free as possible.
9. Seein' the fellas at the library - saw Langston and Jack last night but couldn't stay to chat. By the time I got home I had a text from Langston that read, "Thinking of you star!" I'll be stopping in tomorrow after work to catch up on all things Langston. Man I'm lucky. I am utterly surrounded by fabulous people.
10. Random photos of people planking. This one had me in tears. I know planking is so twelve minutes ago, but my god, it's freakin' funny. I'm pretty sure this one would be filed under Mildly Dangerous.
(photo kidnapped from buzzfeed)
Bonus - Watching Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy act - they are both so unbelievably talented while remaining quite easy on the eyes. Have ya seen Shame? I saw it months and months ago and it still won't leave me. Best performance I've seen in a long damn time.

The Holiday Table
Here is the last photo that I found outside the library that afternoon. I love people who photograph birthday cakes, Christmas Trees all lit up, and festive dining tables. It's such a dorky thing to do and I find it terribly endearing.

Best Motivational Music
Lyrics Born's Callin' Out has been a favourite of mine since I first heard it in that Adrien Brody commercial for Diet Coke back in '04. It's seriously impossible to not be put in a good mood and shake a tailfeather to this song. It's on any workout mix I've ever made and I remember bonding over it with Bryan in the dairy cooler when we both discovered that we love, love, love this track. Holla!

Winter
There is one major downfall for me when the winter weather starts rollin' in and that's the sad fact that I have no heat at my place. In the 9 years I've been here the heater has worked only two seasons. It's been replaced and looked at and blah, blah, blah, but it's at a point now where I've given up. However, I have a slew of candles, a couple lil' space heaters, tons of blankets and occasionally, someone to curl up beside, so I make it through all right. But here are the bestest things about the upcoming season and I can't wait!
Bishop & Pax's fireplace a-goin'
Sleeves' fire pit
blankets
rosy pink cheeks
sledding
snow angels
snow forts
fuzzy slippers
knitting a new scarf
flickering candles
the sound of crunching snow
shoveling the drive
hot cocoa
cider
getting snowed in and having the day off
gloves
scarves
big, puffy snow suits on little kids
boots
extra socks
Christmas
-trees
-movies
-stories
-music
-buying gifts
-crazy houses with mega lights
New Year's Eve/Bishop's Bday
winter break
sleepovers
cabin fever
sniffles
Valentine's Day
stay in and read
flannel sheets (mine have monkeys and owls!)
winter jammies
hot tea
Harry Potter
The Lord of the Rings (remember those three years where every December came a new Harry Potter or Rings movie? Those were good times...)
having the heat in my car on full blast and feel myself defrost
real/phony Ugg boots
super hot steamy baths
puffy coats and that smooshy sound they make when people swing their arms
naked trees
seeing your breath
bundling up under lots and lots of blankets
lil red noses

The Seminary
Driving to my brother's place out in Bryn Mawr, I hung my hand out the window and snapped this shot of the Seminary. The property is massive and I am always distracted by the landscaping and gorgeous buildings each time I drive past it.

We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the vitriolic words and actions of the bad people, but for the appalling silence of the good people.

The Old Westmont
It isn't possible for me to drive down Haddon Ave and see the old Westmont Theatre and not daydream about buying it and completely restoring it. Bring it back to its former glory and then some. Show old movies in digital and some in 35mm plus art house films and indie features. Have trilogy afternoons on Saturdays where we show Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings and Toy Story. It's so depressing to see that building with such potential just sit there, but it makes for some fabulous daydream fodder. Maybe someday when I make my millions...I'll be the gal handing out tickets or serving the fresh buttery popcorn!

Autumn's '77 Mustang
Not long after Autumn and Heather got their first car, they sold it and instead bought a red '91 LeMans. Kids...what were they thinking? This car is so fabulous. I bet the doors were super heavy and made that really good sound when you slam them shut. I miss that sound.

Ashley English's Gingersnap Pumpkin Pie
This modern take on the traditional pumpkin pie has a little something for everyone. A robust, no-holds-barred gingersnap crust for the spice lover, a creamy custard filling for the traditionalist, and candied pumpkin seeds on top for the person who likes a little crunch with their sweets. You can make this either in a standard 9-inch pie pan or in a springform pan, which makes for a particularly pretty presentation, with the crust rising up to meet the bright orange filling.
You Will Need:
9-inch pie pan or springform pan
10 ounces gingersnap cookies (about 2½ cups)
6 tablespoons (¾ stick) unsalted butter, melted
Filling
2 cups pumpkin purée*
¾ cup (packed) light brown sugar
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
½ teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon sea salt
¾ cup heavy cream
½ cup whole milk
2 large eggs, beaten
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Pumpkin Seed Topping
½ cup toasted pumpkin seeds (to toast, bake at 275°F for 4 to 5 minutes)
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 tablespoons minced crystallized ginger
½ teaspoon sea salt
¼ teaspoons ground cloves
* For pumpkin purée, cut a 5- to 6-pound baking pumpkin in half. Place flesh side down on a rimmed baking sheet and roast at 425°F until the flesh has softened, about 45 to 50 minutes. Cool slightly, then remove the seeds, scoop the flesh out of the skin, and puree in a food processor until smooth. You can also simply use solid-pack canned pumpkin.
Makes one 9-inch pie.
Directions:
1. Make the gingersnap crust. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly butter the 9-inch pie pan or springform pan and set aside. Crush the gingersnaps either by pulsing them in a food processor or placing them in a plastic freezer bag and rolling over them with a rolling pin. Combine the crushed gingersnaps and melted butter in a medium-size bowl. Stir until fully mixed.
Press the mixture into the pan, covering the bottom fully and pressing the crumbs halfway up the sides. Bake the crust 10 minutes, then remove from the oven and cool completely before filling.
2. Prepare the filling. Combine all the filling ingredients in a medium-size bowl and whisk to blend well.
3. Prepare the pumpkin seed topping. Combine all the topping ingredients in a small bowl. Using a large spoon, stir until the pumpkin seeds are evenly coated with the butter, sugar, and spices.
Variation: Replace the pumpkin seeds with an equal amount of chopped pecans for a pecan praline topping.
4. Assemble the pie. Pour the filling into the prepared gingersnap crust and bake for 40 minutes. Remove the pie from the oven, leaving the oven on. Sprinkle the pumpkin seed topping evenly over the pie, then return it to the oven and bake another 20 minutes, until the pumpkin seeds have browned slightly and the filling has set.
Cool at least 1 hour before serving.

Kathleen's Room
Senior year of high school I became really good friends with a hilarious gal who had just moved here from California. Kathleen was crazy and so funny - like a brunette version of Jenny McCarthy. Kathleen had the sort of parents that didn't care what she did to her room. We took that as an opportunity to paint whatever we wanted wherever we wanted. Rachel's Peace Love & Hair~weave was borderline absurd and soon became our way of ending notes to eachother in Study Hall. Noel painted the first few line of Pearl Jam's Daughter beside Kathleen's bed and I did a quote from a Madonna song. Kath painted those adorable squiggly lines and daisies you see in the photo around her poster of The Cure. Also, please note the framed black and white photo of The Beatles on Kathleen's dresser. Man, do I miss that gal. She was a laugh riot!

Tears of Anguish
A whisper away
on the quiet of day
An unbroken silence,
A lengthy defiance
Of space and of time,
Of song and of rhyme
A melody's delight,
Of torment and fright
Washing the skies
Acid Blue.
My sophomore year of high school I met a fellow newbie (we both had transferred from other schools) named Kelley Barrieault, also known as Yellek Barry. She wrote poetry. I didn't think normal, regular, everyday people wrote poetry, and I certainly didn't think that people living in the 20th century wrote poetry. Songs, yes. Poems, no. Kelley was the one that told me I should write. She convinced me that I had something to say and that I should express it. The above piece is one that Kelley wrote and it often plays over and over in my mind as I leave dream land and re-enter the waking world. It has such comforting, beautiful rhythm and I love the simplicity and movement. Normally I find rhyming poems childish and irritating, but this piece dances. By the end of 1992, Kelley's mum remarried and they moved to Winter Park, Florida. After graduation, our letter writing slowed then ceased altogether. I still wonder if she still writes...

Atco Peeps
In high school I was friends with a girl who lived not far from The Atco Multiplex. They had a photo booth at this theatre so clearly, every time we went to see a movie, we had to bring extra cash for pictures. Only thing was that more often than not, the machine would jam. Katie threw caution to the wind one time and somehow crammed her fist up the slot and yanked out a slew of pictures until she found ours. It should come as no surprise that I kept these photos and will share some with you now! (I still want to know who these people are and what movie they went to see. Mostly, for these two couples, I wanna know if they are still together and still as happy as they seem in these pictures. I like to think they are more in love than ever!)

What the what...
I woke up this morning feeling blah. I had just come from the baggage claim terminal at an airport in France waiting to meet Woody Harrelson. He was returning from military service and we hadn't seen each other in a while. The place was crowded but in between the passing faces I saw him wheeling down the ramp in his chair. I was filled with excitement because he hadn't seen me and I could imagine his expression when he finally did, as he had no idea I was meeting him. He was talking to another guy in a chair while collecting their bags, they shook hands and parted. I started to walk toward Woody and then he suddenly stood up, then walked right past me. As he passed me on the left I said, dumbfounded, "ohmigod, you're walking!" "I got nothin' to say to you" was his response as he kept on going, not even looking at me. I was totally caught off guard and called for him to wait, then my friggin' alarm went off. Now I have no clue what I did, or what he thinks I did, that would piss him off to the point that he'd completely throw away our friendship of however many years without even a discussion. I was crushed. Woody, what gives, man?
